Lola ya Bonobo
Claudine Andre founded Lola ya Bonobo, the only sanctuary for bonobos in the world, in 2002 after caring for orphaned bonobos since 1993. The staff at Lola work to rescue, rehabilitate and release bonobos back into the wild. Lola is located in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo on 75 acres of forested land. Approximately 70 bonobos are currently being cared for, physically and psychologically, at this time. Bonobos come to the sanctuary for a variety of reasons, but most often they are victims of poaching and the illegal bushmeat and pet trades.
